In 2007, IGIU launched IGIU Climate. The new program includes a IGIU Climate Standard, verification protocols, and consumer disclosure guidelines. The IGIU Climate Standard was approved by the IGIU Governance Board during the June 19th, 2007 Board meeting.

IGIU Climate aims to strengthen the voluntary greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction market by providing a credible consumer protection program. IGIU believes that consumers purchasing GHG emission reductions should be provided with clear information regarding their purchase and should receive what they think they are buying.

IGIU Climate Certified GHG emission reduction products must contain only real, measurable, verifiable and beyond business-as-usual GHG emission reductions. IGIU Climate and the IGIU Climate Standard are intended to complement¡ªnot replace¡ªmandatory GHG emission reduction regulations.
